Car accidents along Katipunan get frequent
by Geru Gotico

QUEZON CITY, Philippines--Three consecutive car accidents happened along Katipunan last Thursday, Friday and Saturday as released yesterday in a situation report by the Ateneo Security Office.

“The main causes of accidents in Katipunan are the flagrant disregard of traffic rules and
irresponsible driving,” the report says.

The first accident happened on Thursday wherein a green Lancer smashed into the rear of a white SUV. The white SUV dashed from the southbound lane crossing Katipunan to make a U-turn under the Gate 2.5 overpass when it should have made its U-turn under the flyover.

Both accidents on Friday and Saturday are of motorcycles hitting cars. The Security Office advises the community “to drive defensively along Katipunan and to be particularly wary of irresponsible motorcyclists.”

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) employee Lydia Volante said MMDA are ready when car accidents happen.

“We have paramedics for on-the-spot rescues,” said Volante in Filipino and English. “We make sure we respond immediately.”

Volante added that the best way to prevent these accidents from happening is to follow traffic rules and to drive carefully.
